Poe Valley State Park

Poe Valley State park is a 620 acre park nestled in a rugged mountain valley surrounded by Bald Eagle State Forest.  The 25 acre Poe Lake provides swimming, fishing, and boating recreation.  Poe Valley does not have a paved road to the park.

Camping

The campground at Poe Valley is a fully wooded campground.  It provides both electric and non-electric sites.  The pads are relatively level.  We used the campground as a hub for Poe Paddy and the surrounding Bald Eagle State Forest.

Hiking

While there is not a lot of hiking within the park, there are many hikes in the surrounding area.

Nature Trail (1 mi, easiest hiking):  Park in the parking lot near the park office for hiking the Nature Trail.   The Nature Trail is a loop trail along Big Poe Creek.  It is easy trail with thickets of mountain laurel.

Little Poe Road (easiest hiking): Little Poe Road is found off of Poe Valley Road where there is a small lot at the trail head.  Little Poe Road is a beautiful, easy hike along the creek.

Gums Trail (most difficult hiking): The Gums Trail may be accessed from Poe Valley Road.  It is a very difficult trail with up to 30% grade.
